‘Unreal’ – Semi Ajayi blown away by West Brom 23-year-old
Semi Ajayi is thrilled with the form that team-mate Matheus Pereira has shown since he arrived on loan at West Brom in the summer.
Pereira, 23, scored one goal and assisted three others in the emphatic 5-1 win against Swansea at The Hawthorns on Sunday.
The Brazilian attacker has been sensational for the Baggies while on loan from Sporting CP and there are widespread reports that say that he is set to join permanently at some point in 2020.
Centre-back Ajayi is delighted to be playing in a team with such an influential attacker and has hailed Pereira as the best player in the league.
“It’s a joy to play with him – but I can imagine it’s even more of a joy to watch him,” Ajayi said, as quoted by the Express & Star.
“Some of his passing against Swansea was unreal and long may it continue.”
When asked if Pereira is the best player in the Championship, Ajayi added: “Yeah, definitely.
“From the performances he has put in it’s hard to argue otherwise. We’re all really pleased for him.”
It is really hard to argue with Ajayi’s claim about Pereira.
In 18 Championship appearances, the 23-year-old has scored five goals and supplied 14 assists.
According to stats by WhoScored, Pereira ranks fourth for the average number of key passes completed per appearance [2.4] and no one has supplied more assists.
West Brom played an absolute blinder by getting Pereira signed up in the summer and he seems like a player who is already well-equipped to feature in the Premier League next season.
In other West Brom news, a Sky Sports pundit has predicted the score of Albion’s clash with Wigan on Wednesday.
