'Perfect' - Ian Holloway drools over 'brilliant' West Brom player in 3-2 win v Birmingham

Ian Holloway has been drooling over Charlie Austin after the West Brom striker came off the bench to score two goals in Albion’s 3-2 win away at Birmingham on Saturday.

Slaven Bilic watched his side come from behind twice to return to the top of the Championship table as Leeds squandered a three-goal lead to draw against Cardiff later in the day.

Austin’s introduction off the bench was the game-changer for West Brom as the former Southampton striker scored a beautiful half-volley from the edge of the penalty area to level the scores at 2-2, before heading home the winner in the 81st minute.

Holloway was a fan of both goals by the Baggies forward, who he could not speak highly of on Quest.

“I think the fella’s top-drawer, I always have,” said Holloway on EFL on Quest on Saturday night.

“This is something else. He just pops into a little bit of space. He didn’t mean it to pop up but to hit it on the swivel like that, that’s top-drawer.”

On Austin’s second-goal, Holloway said: “If you look at his run, he makes one run to kid the defender he’s going to go and then he checks and he’s still got his eye on the ball.

“Perfect header back the way it came. What a brilliant striker.”

How long will it be before Austin is back in Bilic’s starting line-up?

Hal Robson-Kanu replaced the ex-QPR man in Bilic’s side when he was struggling to score and the Welshman was on fire.

But now, both strikers are scoring regularly with Austin bagging six goals in his last five appearances, with four of those appearances being off the bench.

It is certainly a good problem for Bilic to have and with two strikers fighting over the starting spot, it can hopefully get them to play even better as the busy festive period kicks off.
