Sky Sports pundit predicts West Brom clash v Barnsley

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has predicted that West Brom will return to winning ways when they take on Barnsley at Oakwell on Boxing Day.

Albion were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford on Saturday but still managed to move three points ahead of Leeds United at the top of the Championship table as Marcelo Bielsa’s side lost at Fulham.

West Brom have not lost since they were beaten by Leeds at Elland Road on October 1 and boast the best away record in the league.

Although Barnsley’s form has improved lately, Prutton cannot see them defying the odds and causing an upset against Slaven Bilic’s promotion-hunting side.

He has tipped the Baggies to win 2-1 at Oakwell.

“Are Barnsley fans starting to believe they can stay up now? Gerhard Struber has really turned things around and now they are just a point from safety heading into Boxing Day,” said Prutton on the Sky Sports website.

“West Brom have been held twice in their last three games, but are still unbeaten in a long time and have 11 points between themselves and third. If they do keep dropping points, though, then that gap with close up quickly… but I think they’ll get back to winning ways at Oakwell.”

It would be a huge shock if Barnsley were to beat West Brom on Thursday.

The Tykes managed to earn a 2-2 draw when they met the Baggies earlier this season at The Hawthorns but it would take a huge effort if they want to replicate that performance.

West Brom should win this game but – as is always the way in the Championship – nothing can be taken for granted and you are never too far away from a shock result.

Albion need to be sure that a shock result does not happen this Thursday.

In other West Brom news, Albion are in pursuit of a Ligue 1 right-back.
