Peter Swan: West Brom would ‘guarantee promotion’ if they sign this 23-year-old

Speculation linking Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen with a move to West Brom this month has gone a bit quiet as of late.

Football Insider reported in December that Albion were plotting a £15million bid to sign the 23-year-old with Slaven Bilic aiming to bolster his attacking options for the second half of the season.

Bowen has proven at Hull that not only is he one of the best players in the Championship, but also that he has the ability to make the step up to the Premier League at some point in the future.

Former Leeds and Hull player Peter Swan has claimed that West Brom would be assuring themselves of top-flight football next season if they manage to land Bowen this month.

“I’ve seen Newcastle United are interested and a switch to link back up with Steve Bruce would be a good fit for both parties, but closer to home in the Championship you can’t help but feel it would be a season-changing move,” Swan said, as quoted by the Hull Daily Mail.

“If either West Brom or Leeds buy Bowen it would guarantee promotion for either side, he would make all the difference.”

It is not hard to see why Swan thinks that.

Bowen has scored 17 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions this season, playing as both a right-sided winger and centre-forward for the Tigers.

West Brom’s attack is seriously impressive but that does not mean that Bilic cannot make improvements to it.

Matt Phillips’ form has not been great lately so Bowen could slot in on the right-wing in place of the Scotland international.

Alternatively, the Hull ace could be used as a striker and offer competition in that area of Bilic’s squad.

It is good that he is so versatile, but based on how this speculation has gone quiet in recent weeks, it seems very unlikely a deal will happen.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has claimed that clubs are keen on this Albion duo.
