‘Miles behind the rest of play’ – Some West Brom fans slam midfielder at HT v Newcastle

Chris Brunt may be a modern-day legend at West Brom – but that hasn’t stopped a bunch of fans from slamming him for his first-half performance against Newcastle on Tuesday.

West Brom went in at the break two goals behind in their FA Cup fifth-round clash thanks to Miguel Almiron scoring a rare brace.

Albion had a couple of chances of their own in the opening 45 minutes and came into the game a bit after Newcastle’s firs goal, so a two-goal deficit is perhaps a bit unfair.

West Brom struggled in the middle of the park and a lot of fans have pointed to the duo of Brunt and Gareth Barry as being the reason for that.

Brunt is 35-years-old, barely kicked a ball all season and has recently been injured while Barry has recently celebrated his 39th birthday, has also had little game-time this season and has also had an injury.

Was it a surprise that West Brom lacked energy in the centre of the park? Absolutely not.

However criticising Brunt for that isn’t going to help. You know he would be playing a lot better if he was younger and fitter.

Still, that hasn’t stopped some fans from reacting negatively to the Northern Irish veteran’s first-half display.
