Jamie Carragher discusses West Brom promotion hopes after EFL suspended

Jamie Carragher has no idea how the Premier League and EFL will respond after it was announced on Friday that both will be suspended until April due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

West Brom are currently second in the Championship and on course to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

However there has been talk of the current season being voided if the suspension goes on for too long and replayed.

Carragher has suggested that Albion, Leeds and one other second-tier side could miss out on promotion to the top-flight if that was to happen.

“Inevitable the Premier League and EFL will be suspended today,” said Carragher on Friday morning before the official announcement was made. “You can’t start next season until this one finishes whenever that is.

“No title winners? Who goes in the Champions League next season? Leeds, WBA, +1 miss out on PL? Three clubs in Prem stay up.”

It would be totally wrong the void the whole season now, especially as so much of it has been played.

If they are going to do that then surely it would be fairer to end the season as things stand at the moment – but that is still unfair on those just outside promotion spots, in relegation places and still battling for titles and cups.

We hope it doesn’t come to the season being voided because it would undo a lot of hard work that teams like West Brom, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield United and even Wolves have done.
