Andy Johnson delighted by what he's seen from two West Brom players
Ex-West Brom midfielder Andy Johnson has heaped praise on Slaven Bilic for getting his squad of players to gel together so well.
Since taking charge of the Baggies in the summer, Bilic has done an impressive job of overhauling a squad of players that missing out on promotion last term and bringing in the likes of Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana, Semi Ajayi and Romaine Sawyers.
Another player who Bilic signed was proven Championship goalscorer Charlie Austin.
However Austin has struggled to start for the Baggies this season due to the impressive form of Hal Robson-Kanu.
Despite Austin’s lack of starts, Johnson has been happy to see the comradery between the ex-Southampton striker and Robson-Kanu.
“I think Slaven Bilic has gelled the current team together as a unit, much like we were,” Johnson told The Athletic. “It’s been good to see how the likes of Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu are the first ones to congratulate the other one, even though they’re rivals for one spot.
“And, like [Gary] Megson, Slaven doesn’t take any nonsense either!”
Johnson has made a great point because we have seen a lot of times this season how well the players seem to get on with each other.
Robson-Kanu and Austin have been fighting for the starting striker spot for a while now but still seem delighted for one another when they score.
Then you have the likes of Matheus Pereira and Filip Krovinovic, two players who are on loan at The Hawthorns but act as though they’ve known each other for years.
It’s great to see and could be one of the reasons why West Brom have had such a good season.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips is stunned by the price-tag of Krovinovic.
