View: Steven Reid scores rare goal as West Brom win v Coventry – On this day in 2010
On this day 10 years ago, Steven Reid scored the only goal of the game as West Brom won 1-0 against Midland rivals Coventry City at The Hawthorns.
Reid, who was 29 at the time of his goal, had joined West Brom at the start of March on a one-month loan deal from Blackburn Rovers after struggling with injury issues at Ewood Park.
However he had no such issues at The Hawthorns as Reid was thrown straight into Roberto Di Matteo’s starting line-up to play a big role in the Baggies’ promotion bid.

It took 22 minutes for Reid to find the back of the net against Coventry on March 24, 2010.
The former Republic of Ireland international slotted the ball into the back of the net at the back post following a Chris Brunt corner.
West Brom were unlucky to have not had a second goal before half time when Robert Koren appeared to poke the ball over the line, only for the linesman to offer no signal that a goal had been scored.
After the match, Di Matteo was quoted by BBC Sport as saying it was a “scrappy game” and Coventry “threw everything” at the Baggies defence.

Reid’s goal helped the Baggies secure their fifth straight win and also moved them eight points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest in what would eventually be a successful attempt to win promotion back to the Premier League.
Hopefully, once the current 2019/20 season is back underway, West Brom can build on their current six-point gap to third and take major strides towards a latest bounce back into the top-flight.
