West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry is expected to sign a contract extension until the end of July to complete the season.
The Athletic has reported that the Baggies veteran has returned to training alongside the likes of Chris Brunt, with Barry expected to follow his teammate out of the exit door at the end of the season.
Both are expected to figure for Slaven Bilic between now and the end of the season as West Brom look to finally earn promotion back to the Premier League.
It’s great news for Bilic, who will now have his full-strength squad available to him for the remaining nine games of the season.
Barry hasn’t featured regularly in this campaign, but his experience could be vital in dragging his side through this promotion charge.
Important games are coming up first such as a Midlands derby against Birmingham, then games with Fulham and Brentford.
There aren’t many who share the experience that Barry has in English football, the 39-year-old holding the record for most appearances in the Premier League.
Barry has only featured for 89 minutes in this campaign though, and the fact that Bilic wants to keep him around only highlights how important he is off the pitch.
Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers will surely start once the Championship begins again, and Barry will be ready to jump in whenever necessary.
