‘Terrible’, ‘Clearly not done any research’ – Some WBA fans destroy Derby journo over Baggies claim

If there is one thing that all football fans hate, it is comments being made about their side without real research. And that is exactly what happened to the West Brom faithful on Sunday.

The Athletic’s Derby correspondent Ryan Conway claimed that the Baggies squad is way too old, and will need to be addressed if they are promoted.

One simple search would have shown Conway that out of the top-six clubs in the Championship, only Brentford have a lower average age [Transfermarkt].

Conway was way off the mark but continued to joke about the current state of affairs at the Hawthorns for some reason.

“That team is old. That team is so old,” Conway told the TapIn podcast, as shown on Twitter.

“It’s a really, really old team so whatever happens if they go up – even if they don’t go up – that squad’s got to get younger.”

Conway included the likes of Gareth Barry, who has hardly played, and out of all the players mentioned, only Jake Livermore has a realistic chance of featuring next season.

Many West Brom fans have been drawn to the post and all asked the same question, where is the research?

Slaven Bilic has a core of players that are mainly 27-years-old or younger, just look at Sam Johnstone, Semi Ajayi and Matheus Pereira.

When you consider the fact that Barry, Chris Brunt and possibly Lee Peltier are all leaving the club that will take the average age of the squad down considerably.

Rayhaan Tulloch is also making the step towards the first-team squad, and the more that do that, the lower that average age will be – as we said, it only takes a few minutes to research these things.
