Athletic journalist details how second loan deal could be on the cards for West Brom star

West Brom might be able to sign Grady Diangana on a second second-long loan from West Ham if the London club stays in the Premier League, according to The Athletic’s Steve Madeley.

Diangana, 22, lit up the Championship in the first half of the season for the Baggies but has struggled with injury issues since the festive period and hasn’t played a competitive game for more than 45 minutes since earlier December.

Callum Robinson has stepped in and performed well for Albion while Diangana has been out but fans would still love to see the England Under-21 international extend his stay at The Hawthorns in some capacity.

According to Madeley, if West Ham strengthen their options on the wing in the next transfer window then that could tempt them into loaning Diangana out for a second season in a row.

“I always felt the chances of a permanent deal for Diangana were slim,” Madeley told The Athletic’s Going Up, Going Down podcast. “He’s obviously highly-rated at West Ham, he’s young, he’s England-qualified, he qualifies as home-grown.

“I just think the fee for a permanent deal will be too much.

“West Brom’s best hope with him would be if West Ham stay up and strengthen themselves in that area then West Brom might look at another season-long loan.”

We would 100 per cent take that.

Diangana was a sensation in the first half of the season and that means West Ham are going to be able to demand a lot more for the young attacker.

West Brom’s financial situation is not awful by any means but that doesn’t mean they are not going to be affected by the toll that the coronavirus pandemic has had on football’s economy.

A permanent deal would be nice but we just cannot see it happening with a second loan being far more likely.

However Premier League clubs can only sign two players on loan from other Premier League clubs.

Slaven Bilic might want to strengthen elsewhere with top-flight loanees so let’s see how that pans out.
