West Brom fans have ripped into Matt Phillips for his first-half performance against Brentford at Griffin Park on Friday night.
Phillips, 29, failed to impress Albion fans last week when they drew 0-0 against Birmingham and many were surprised to see him stay in the starting line-up with Filip Krovinovic left on the bench by Slaven Bilic.
The Scotland international did little to justify Bilic’s decision to start him with quite a miserable first-half display.
Brentford opened the scoring through Ollie Watkins after Phillips squandered possession and then failed to have any impact as he tracked back to try and defend.
It wasn’t solely his fault that Watkins scored because Romaine Sawyers, Darnell Furlong and Ahmed Hegazi could have all done more to stop the goal.
However Phillips has been a bit of a scapegoat recently – understandably – and that has led to many fans tearing him to shreds for his performance in the opening 45 minutes at Griffin Park.
Here is a selection of their tweets:

Was that Phillips not tracking his man? I know he lost the ball causing the goal. #wba

realistically what does Phillips bring to the team? should've been sold and funds used for Orsic. #wba

What a surprise that the attack started from Phillips giving the ball away when we had a chance to slide into the final third. Can't for the life of me understand how or why he's still in the team any more.

Hegazi, Phillips need shipping out ASAP, regardless of where we play next season

Bilic cannot keep sticking with Phillips in his starting line-up because the former QPR winger simply hasn’t delivered for the Baggies in a long time.
Krovinovic is on the bench and was in stunning form before the season was halted so why isn’t he starting and why has Bilic gone back to a 4-2-3-1 formation he scrapped because of bad results?
In other West Brom news, Bilic is eyeing up a move for this West Ham defender.
