The trouble with Friday night football is that if the game doesn’t go your way it could ruin the whole weekend. And West Brom fans will have woken up this morning feeling very much the worse for wear after a bruising 1-0 loss to Brentford.
We can’t really have any complaints. Brentford weren’t spectacular but they got the job done and they looked the fittest side on the pitch.
For West Brom, it’s yet another game without a goal, which is a huge worry going into the final seven games of the season.
Hal Robson-Kanu was chosen to lead the line by Slaven Bilic last night and it was a decision that backfired both for the game and with the fans.
He looked heavy and unfit and many fans piled onto him during and after the game, as well as the manager for picking him.
He was hauled off at half-time, with Bilic bringing Kenneth Zohore on, and West Brom looked a lot sharper and more threatening.
Zohore came closest to scoring for West Brom, slamming a shot against the bar, but it left us and other fans wondering why Charlie Austin – our most effective striker off the bench this season – was left in the stands.
It’s a big problem that West Brom need to sort quickly, with Brentford now just five points back.
One point from two games and no goals scored is a big worry going forwards.
Meanwhile, here are the best reactions to Robson-Kanu from the fans…
Don’t know what the answer is but Kanu Austin and Zahore are not good enough to lead the line. #WBA

Livermore has turned back into his old self. Unfit and overweight. Sawyers has got worse since the season has gone on. Phillips should be nowhere near the squad, lost all his pace and HAS to do 10 step overs. Robson Kanu is not a footballer. Never has been. #wba

Sawyers, Phillips and Kanu have to be dropped. Sawyers slows it too much, Phillips just hasn’t turned up and Kanu appears to have returned to old. Hate to say it but I’d sooner see Zohore given a run, he the only striker with pace and mobility we have on the books. #WBA

Going into a season aiming for promotion and your 2 main strikers are Robson Kanu and Zahore is bordering on negligence #wba

Livermore back to being unfit and fat. Sawyers is a joke only in the team because he’s local just struts around. Zohore Robinson Krovinovic Edwards wouldn’t even get into a park side. Bilić is a fraud. Less said about Robson Kanu the better #wba

One thing lockdown has done is turned Hal Robson Kanu back into Hal Robson Kanu #WBA

Has Kanu touched the ball? #WBA

#wba we were very poor again last night, my take away:
– We’re not out of it but need to sort it out quickly.
– people are marking MP and GD our the game.
– no imagination in final 3rd
– HRK doesnt look fit or in form.
– KZ is not the answer.
I trust SB to sort it out! #coyb

Reflecting on last night, goals are the problem, @chazaustin10 has to be playing more minutes. HRK has been imperative to our style of play this season, but looks like he’s been on the cheese sandwiches during lockdown and no where near as mobile or fit. #wba

HRK and Phillips have got to go #wba
