‘Brilliant’ – Alan McInally thrilled by West Brom player in 3-0 win v Sheff Weds
Alan McInally has heaped praise on Charlie Austin after the West Brom striker scored in the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night.
Austin, 30, started a Championship game for the first time since early February at Hillsborough.
Slaven Bilic’s decision to throw him back into the starting line-up was fully justified too as in the first half, the ex-QPR striker scored from the penalty spot after a foul on Dara O’Shea.
It was Austin’s 10th goal for West Brom this season and McInally has suggested that he probably should be starting more games.
“It’s right-footed, no chance for the goalkeeper. Brilliant stuff,” said McInally on Sky Sports News on Wednesday night.
“He’s such a goalscorer, Charlie Austin. Funnily enough he’s been on the bench a few times. He hasn’t been a starter but he’s a starter tonight and a goalscorer.”
As good as Robson-Kanu has been at times this season, Bilic has to try and stick with Austin up front now that the 30-year-old has scored.
Strikers need confidence and they need to know they are in good form before going into games and Austin is going to have that over the coming weeks now he’s netted against the Owls.
Robson-Kanu hasn’t scored in a while and wasn’t exactly having an impact in games before the trip to Hillsborough this week while Kenneth Zohore hasn’t proven he should be starting at all this season.
Austin up front is the way forward and, hopefully, the way West Brom win promotion to the Premier League.
