West Brom took a huge step towards the Premier League last night with a commanding 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Not only did the result allow them to reassert a five-point lead over third-placed Brentford, but it also represented a significant turning point in our form after dropping points in both of our matches since the Championship restart.

And it would appear that the Albion board already have one eye firmly on the top flight too.

According to Area Napoli, the Baggies have made a move for Gremio star  Everton Cebolinha.

A bid of around £22.5 million is understood to have been tabled, with the Brazilian club reportedly looking at the approach favourably.

The 24-year-old winger was not keen, however, and it understood to have rejected the potential move before it got off the ground.

But supporters are somewhat sceptical about the whole thing, and you can understand why.

£22.5 million would represent a club record fee for a player who has no experience of European football, let alone the Premier League.

That’s not to say that he couldn’t cut it in England – and his 14 caps for Brazil are a pretty good indication of his level of talent – but it would represent a major gamble.

Bearing in mind that we don’t even know what division we’re going to be in next season, it seems highly unlikely that West Brom chiefs have actually made a concrete bid for the player.

It doesn’t appear that West Brom would be getting anything hugely special for their money either.

In fact, a quick look at the stats shows that the South American actually has a lower cross accuracy, lower dribble completion rate, and a lower xG than Callum Robinson this season, as per Wyscout.

In short, this move doesn’t appear to be a goer, and given the money supposedly being thrown about and the uncertainty West Brom are facing right now, that probably a good thing.
