It’s fair to say that West Brom fans aren’t too keen on the prospect of signing John Obi Mikel this summer.
The Baggies have been linked with a move for the 33-year-old in a report from Sky Sports News.
The former Chelsea midfielder has been without a club since he left Turkish outfit Trabzonspor back in March.
A number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, but it’s very clear that supporters are hopeful that Albion aren’t planning to act on their initial interest.
The general consensus among fans is that Mikel is something of a has-been who could offer little in the way of reinvigoration in the engine room.
And it’s hard to disagree with that opinion.
While it’s true that he has won every domestic prize in the English game, plus a Champions League to boot, the Nigeria international hasn’t played in England in three years.
His stats are hardly scintillating either.
This term, he has recorded fewer passes per 90 minutes, fewer successful dribbles, and had a lower total action success rate than Romaine Sawyers, as per Wyscout.
That’s not to say that Mikel is a dreadful player by any stretch of the imagination, but he is clearly not an improvement on what we have either.
Why would West Brom go out of their way to bring in a 33-year-old player who wouldn’t bring anything to the table other than a bulging trophy cabinet amassed, by and large, a decade ago?
It makes no sense, and we’re not in favour of it happening.

He must be about 65 now lol . It's a no from me . If we go up the club needs to focus getting a striker in and some defenders . Not sure about Bartley in the top flight #wba
