‘They’ve got a plan’ – West Brom 23y/o discusses possibility of 20/21 loan exit
West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer has claimed that the club have “got a plan” for him next season.
The 23-year-old has agreed a new three-year deal with the Baggies after spending this season out on loan with League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle.
And he has revealed that he has already held talks with Albion chiefs over where he will be playing his football, with the possibility of another loan spell still on the cards.
Speaking to Albion’s official website, he said: “We have had conversations with goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh and Luke Dowling and I think they have got a plan for me depending on what happens with different scenarios.
“A loan is a possibility, but we will have to wait and see when the season ends.”
If we’re being honest, we would like to see Palmer given his chance with the Baggies next season.
Ali Al-Habsi will not be returning to the club, while Johnathan Bond is also out of contract this summer.
As previously examined by West Brom News, Palmer’s stats are actually more impressive than Bond’s, and Plymouth manager Ryan Lowe has called the young stopper “different class” for his contribution this season.
Of course, the step up from League Two to the Premier League would be a huge one, but the Baggies clearly believe in Palmer – otherwise he wouldn’t have been handed this new deal – and there’s no reason to suggest that he wouldn’t be able to assume a role as Sam Johnstone’s deputy next season.
Granted, a loan move would give him the opportunity to play regular football, but West Brom should have no fears about handing him a first team squad role either.
