‘Played with fear’ – Slaven Bilic unhappy with West Brom squad despite win v Hull

Slaven Bilic was unhappy with his West Brom squad on Sunday afternoon despite their 4-2 victory against Hull City.

The Baggies took all three points at the Hawthorns thanks to goals from Charlie Austin, Ahmed Hegazi, Kamil Grosicki and Grady Diangana.

Bilic was unhappy with how Hull managed to put so much pressure on his defence despite playing a “simple” style of football.

The Croatian claimed that his side played with too much fear on Sunday afternoon, and admitted that must change in the final five games.

“All the pressure is on us and Leeds,” he told the BBC.

“The others are hoping. But we have to cope with it and we wouldn’t swap places with any of them. It was a frantic match. A very open game. On the ball, we were excellent, we created so many chances.

“But they put us under pressure with a simple way of playing, long ball, second ball, quick attacks, So, on that basis, I wasn’t happy. At times we played with fear.”

Bilic is a perfectionist, we all know that and his changes have made all the difference in the past week in their promotion charge.

At this stage of the season all that matters are the three points, and these latest points are vital in keeping ahead of Brentford with only five games to go.

West Brom did keep 61% of the ball and had 22 shots on goal, but what wouldn’t have pleased Bilic is the fact that Hull had 15 attempts of their own with seven corners at the Hawthorns [BBC]

The Baggies won’t be able to do that against a dangerous Derby next time out, and this will be used as a warning.
