‘Brilliant’ – Slaven Bilic singles out West Brom ace for ‘Top performance’ v Hull City
West Brom boss Slaven Bilic was blown away by playmaker Matheus Pereira in the 4-2 victory against Hull City on Sunday afternoon.
The Brazilian midfielder recorded a hattrick of assists at the Hawthorns as he guided his side to yet another three points in the Championship.
Pereira secured his 19th assist of the season and was also given WhoScored’s Man of the Match award in the victory.
Bilic singled out Pereira for his performance on Sunday, claiming that he has stepped up in the past two games.
“I’ve told him a few times during the season I expect him to be better,” he told Birmingham Live.
“Against Hull and against Sheffield Wednesday he was top. Top performances. Not only offensively but he fought, he was running, he was brilliant with his pressing, with his movement with his passing.
“He is Matheus, he is our player, he is one of those key players when we are getting into the final third of the pitch and it’s great to have him like this. His ball to Grosicki was ‘wow.’ It was one of those balls.
“But if we want to go to the Premier League – and we want to go to the Premier League – then we need that from him. We need that from him.”
Bilic was spot on to single out Pereira for praise on Sunday afternoon, and he will be pivotal in West Brom’s promotion charge in the final five games of the season.
The 24-year-old kept 8.6% possession in the game, had four shots on goal and completed over 80% of his passes according to WhoScored, as he completely domination a sorry Hull defence.
The Croatian boss demanded more, and he got the answers he was looking for in the final two games – five more to go.
