‘Is this guy for real?’, ‘Oh the irony’ – Some West Brom fans hit out at Nathan Ferguson tweet
West Brom fans have hit out at defender Nathan Ferguson after he reacted to the news that Rayhaan Tulloch had penned a new deal with the Baggies.
Tulloch, 19, is one of the most promising young players at The Hawthorns and, unlike Ferguson, he agreed to sign a new four-year deal rather than quit the Black Country club.
Ferguson, also 19, saw his contract with West Brom expire at the end of last month despite Luke Dowling confirming that the defender had been handed the chance to sign a “very attractive offer”.
Ferguson’s decision to turn down that offer and, instead, set his sights on a move to Crystal Palace [Guardian] has been unpopular with fans, which is why some have found the defender’s tweet about Tulloch’s new contract quite ironic as he took to his personal Twitter account to hail his former team-mate.
Even though the West Brom fanbase has fallen out of love with Ferguson, the youngster has continuously tweeted and posted on Instagram about the Baggies.
They are the club that Ferguson has grown up with, handed his chance at professional football with and made his senior debut with.
They are also the club who trained the 19-year-old to the point where he is being eyed by Premier League clubs like Palace, Arsenal and Tottenham [Football.London].
It is why West Brom fans have become so frustrated with Ferguson.
He is leaving The Hawthorns to pursue what seems like a chance to play in the Premier League – but Albion have a strong chance of being a Premier League club next season too.
Ferguson was a starter for the Baggies before he almost joined Palace in January and had to undergo season-ending surgery so why risk that to go somewhere he isn’t guaranteed as much game-time?
The only thing we can think of to explain Ferguson’s decision is that he is desperate to move to London for one reason or another. We can’t even suggest money is the prime motivator because if that was the case, he’d surely head somewhere like Arsenal or Spurs over Palace.
We understand the frustration of West Brom fans and why they would find Ferguson’s tweet about Tulloch a bit ironic but it is probably time to just unfollow the 19-year-old now and let him get on with his career.
