Report – West Brom lead transfer chase for 22y/o talent with £15m price tag
West Brom are leading the chase to sign Huddersfield Town striker Karlan Grant, according to TEAMtalk.
It is understood that there are several Championship clubs interested in the 22-year-old, who has hit 18 goals in the league this season.
The Yorkshire Evening Post even reported recently that a bid of £15 million has been lodged for the hitman.
The local outlet claimed that the Terriers denied any such offer being tabled at the time, but it is understood that the club could be forced into selling some of their top assets this summer to help bolster their finances in the wake of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
TEAMtalk claim that a fee of around £15 million will indeed be enough to tempt Huddersfield into selling, although Sky Sports reported back in March that both Aston Villa and Fulham are also keen on snapping up Grant if he becomes available.
West Brom need a deadly striker, and Grant certainly fits that bill.
18 goals is a great return this season, especially considering the fact that he has been playing in a team that have been embroiled in a relegation battle for most of the campaign.
His goals per game rate of 0.44 is higher than Hal Robson-Kanu’s this term, as per Wyscout, and he also has a higher xG and a higher shot accuracy rate.
£15 million is a lot of money, make no mistake, but Grant did score four goals in 13 Premier League outings in a pretty turgid Terriers team last season, and he has kicked on again this term to improve his form yet again.
If that price can be driven down any, this could be a good deal for all involved.
In other West Brom news, Hal Robson-Kanu has sent a message to this Leeds player after Albion’s loss handed the Whites promotion.
