West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has been credited with an interest in signing Brentford striker Ollie Watkins this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Baggies boss is keen to sign Watkins, 24, to provide competition in the striker role for Charlie Austin.

Watkins scored his 26th goals of the season on Wednesday night to help Brentford seal a spot in the Championship play-off final and, as reported by The Athletic, has an £18million release clause in his contract at Griffin Park.

Our panel of West Brom Super Fans are delighted to see the club linked with a striker who has had such a fine season in front of goal.

Watkins has been dubbed a “younger version of [Dwight] Gayle” by one member of the panel while another says he’s “the best striker we could get”.

Watkins would be a top addition to the West Brom attack this summer.

Sky Sports has reported that the Baggies have prioritised a move to sign a goalscorer before next season starts and, based on his performances this season in the Championship, Watkins is exactly that.

His £18million release clause also means he could be affordable, but that does mean that there are bound to be other Premier League clubs, who are established in the top-flight, are interested in signing him.

Don’t put too much hope into signing Watkins, Albion fans. First, we need to hope Brentford lose in the play-off final before he becomes a more realistic target but even after that, there will be more hurdles in the way.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are set to bid £6.3million for this Croatia international.
