Former West Brom caretaker manager Jimmy Shan has set his sights on three Baggies youngsters as he aims to improve his Solihull Moors side, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The newspaper claims that Shan has made 20-year-old winger Nick Clayton-Phillips one of his top targets for the summer.
Clayton-Phillips made four appearances for Solihull during a short-term loan at the National League club last season but Albion could resist a second loan swoop by Shan, with Slaven Bilic a fan of the youngster.
Shan has his eyes on two more West Brom prospects with the Birmingham Mail adding that Jamie Soule and Rayhaan Tulloch are also being monitored by the Solihull boss.
Shan is a good coach but, no offence to him and Solihull, these three players he’s looking at are perhaps too good for the National League.
Clayton-Phillips and Soule have both played at that level already and will be wanting to join an EFL club, if anything, this summer.
As for Tulloch, he’s knocking on the door of Bilic’s first-team having already made five senior appearances for the Baggies.
We don’t mind seeing Shan using his contacts at The Hawthorns to get good young players on loan but Albion shouldn’t be looking to do their former coach any favours.
Any player who is sent out on loan to the National League should be sent there knowing that is the best league they can play in.
If not, joining sides in the Championship, League One or League Two are far better options.
In other West Brom news, Albion are preparing a bid for this South American goal machine.
