View: West Brom youngster could miss chance as journo delivers triple transfer update
The goalkeeping department has been one area that has faced criticism from West Brom fans in the past couple of seasons.
Sam Johnstone has completed every single minute of the last two Championship campaigns but has still come in for some stick from the Albion faithful.
If that continues next season, the Baggies could do with more competition inbetween the sticks, with a number of options possible.
Alex Palmer impressed at Plymouth last season, helping Argyle earn promotion to League One while on loan down south.
The young stopper was rewarded for that form at the Hawthorns, signing a new three-year deal in the West Midlands – although that doesn’t guarantee a spot in the squad next season.
The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has reported that the Baggies are targeting a “shock move” for Swansea keeper Steven-Andreas Benda.
As well as that, Albion have watched Wigan’s David Marshall and Joe Hart as Bilic looks for more competition for Johnstone.
That will be majorly disappointing for Palmer, who will have wanted to make his breakthrough next season after signing his new deal.
The 23-year-old admitted after signing that contract that the Albion staff had plans for his future and that another loan switch was possible, but surely he wanted a chance at the Hawthorns.
We examined his stats from last season, and they were more impressive than Jonathan Bond – something that should see him as the Baggies’ number two as things stand.
Should one of Hart, Marshall or Benda arrive this summer, Palmer could be forced to leave the Hawthorns for yet another season.
