‘My job is done’ – Senior West Brom figure shares last words after Hawthorns exit confirmed
Mark Jenkins has resigned from his role as West Brom Chief Executive on Monday afternoon after the Baggies secured promotion to the Premier League.
The senior official shared that he had informed the hierarchy at the Hawthorns that he would be leaving at the end of the season before the enforced lockdown.
West Brom sealed promotion back to the Premier League on the final day of the season, dragging themselves across the line with a 2-2 draw against Queens Park Rangers.
Jenkins delivered one last interview before leaving, claiming that his main job to earn promotion was secured and he can leave happy.
“We are back in the Premier League and my job is done,” he told the club website.
“I had informed the owners before lockdown that I would be leaving at the end of the season as if we were unsuccessful then I felt it was appropriate that somebody else take the reins to ensure this great club return to where it should be.
“Equally, if we did achieve the target then my role would come to a natural and positive conclusion.”
That may not be the only change happening in the boardroom this summer, with question marks surrounding the future of owner Guochuan Lai.
Tensions between Beijing and London mean that China will not be broadcasting Premier League football next season, despite having the rights to do so.
That could be a breaking point for Guochuan, with Stan Collymore even suggesting he could look to sell his stake in the Albion.
Time will tell, but it appears that one of the only men who we could say is sticking around is Luke Dowling, let’s hope to see Guochuan alongside him next season.
