West Brom want to sign Ivorian attacker to potentially fill void left by Diangana exit – report

West Brom want to sign Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele this summer, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper reports that Dembele, 23, is seen as a potential replacement for Grady Diangana on the left-wing, who returned to West Ham when his loan spell at The Hawthorns ended last month.

However, it is understood that the Baggies are likely to face competition from Sheffield United in the hunt to sign the versatile former Grimsby attacker.

Dembele scored six goals and supplied nine assists in 30 appearances across all competitions for Peterborough last season before the League One campaign was curtailed early.

It was an impressive season by the Ivorian ace, who was born in Scotland [WyScout].

Back in February, Darren Ferguson hailed Dembele for his form while playing as a centre-forward.

As quoted by the Peterborough Telegraph, he said: “The boy has been absolutely outstanding since realising he can play as a central striker. He destroyed Ipswich last weekend with a goal and two assists.”

Dembele certainly found his form in the final nine League One games of last season as he scored four goals and supplied seven assists as he played as a centre-forward.

As good as Dembele did in the those matches – is he good enough for the Premier League?

If West Brom think he can replace Diangana on the left-wing then that is surely a huge mistake.

Diangana tore up the Championship last term while playing on Albion’s left-wing while Dembele just enjoyed a purple patch between January and March while playing as a striker.

He’s never played above League One either, so you get the feeling that this would be a big risk by Slaven Bilic and Luke Dowling.

In other West Brom news, Atletico Madrid are set to sign one of Bilic’s targets.
