Club owner details stance on 9-assist forward as West Brom speculation emerges – reports
Peterborough United co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has said that Siriki Dembele is not for sale amid speculation linking him with West Brom.
Peterborough Today have reported MacAnthony’s response to a claim made by the Birmingham Mail on Thursday, which said that the Baggies are interested in signing Dembele, 23, this summer.
It is understood that while MacAnthony admits Dembele is on the radar of certain clubs, he is unaware of any interest from West Brom.
Dembele impressed in the latter stages of last season.
Before January 21, he scored one goal and supplied just one assist in 16 League One appearances as he struggled to cement his spot in Darren Ferguson’s first-team.
However, after being named to play as a centre-forward between mid-January and March, he went on a run of scoring four goals and assisting seven in nine League One matches.
In total last season, Dembele scored six goals and assisted nine in 30 appearances across all competitions, which is not a bad record for someone who did struggle in the first half of the campaign.
Despite him doing well in 2020, is Dembele good enough for West Brom and the Premier League?
The Birmingham Mail’s report says that the Ivorian attacker is seen as a potential replacement for Grady Diangana on the left-wing but we see that as a massive risk.
It is obvious that Dembele performed better as a striker than a winger last season and he’s clearly not in the same category as Diangana.
We wouldn’t mind him to add some strength in depth but Peterborough’s stance is pretty clear and it could take a lot of money to sign him.
