West Brom face competition from Aston Villa for PL forward in £10million deal – report

West Brom need to strengthen in a number of areas before the Premier League season kicks off in less than one month.

None more so than in the final third, with attackers Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson returning back to their parent clubs last month.

Slaven Bilic wouldn’t be happy going into the top-flight with only Charlie Austin and Hal-Robson Kanu in the final third, and the latest reports highlight that.

The Sun has reported that the Albion have identified Southampton forward Michael Obafemi as a player who can help them avoid relegation next season.

It is suggested by the newspaper on their website that West Brom face stiff competition from fierce rivals Aston Villa, with £10million likely enough to seal any deal.

Obafemi became a regular last season with the Saints, but Ralph Hassenhuttl would be open to a sale with Danny Ings, Che Adams and Shane Long all still with the Saints.

Both clubs are said to be waiting for an indication from Southampton before making an offer, and that could happen sooner rather than later.

The 20-year-old earned his Republic of Ireland debut last season too, and emerging onto the international scene will only help his progression.

Obafemi made 21 appearances in the Premier League – 13 of those off the bench and was involved in five goals.

There is undoubted talent there, but West Brom could be taking a big risk making Obafemi their main goal threat given those numbers and would be smart to bring in another forward on top of the youngster if possible.
