West Brom senior defender set to exit – report

Lee Peltier is set to exit West Brom as he will not be offered a new contract by the club, according to the Express & Star.

The 33-year-old defender joined the Baggies on a short-term deal from Cardiff City in the January transfer window but failed to make a single appearance in the Championship as Albion won promotion to the Premier League.

It is understood that Peltier was at the West Brom training ground on Wednesday as Slaven Bilic’s men started their pre-season training programme but he will not be an Albion player once the season starts.

Peltier was a key player at Cardiff before joining West Brom in January.

He made 25 Championship appearances for the Welsh side in the first half of the season but it seemed that the pull of joining in with a bid for automatic promotion was too big a pull for the ex-Liverpool right-back.

Bilic’s decision to sign Peltier was ultimately the wrong one because the club didn’t need him once but that was mainly down to Dara O’Shea’s emergence at right-back.

O’Shea had been mainly seen as a centre-back until the second half of last season and the youth Irish defender did superbly when called upon to replace Darnell Furlong on the right-hand side of the back-four.

O’Shea went on to win the young player of the season award for West Brom so Peltier cannot really have too many complaints about his barren spell in the West Midlands.
