Striker with PL experience open to West Brom talks after 19-goal season – report

Huddersfield striker Karlan Grant is open to holding talks with West Brom about a potential move to The Hawthorns, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reports that the Baggies are definitely interested in signing the 22-year-old centre-forward this summer and they see him as a “more cost-effective alternative” to Brentford’s Ollie Watkins.

The Daily Mail has recently reported that £25million-rated Watkins is Slaven Bilic’s top target this summer but it seems West Brom are trying to quench Bilic’s thirst for a new striker by spending less money and pressing forward in their pursuit of Grant.

Grant scored 19 goals in 43 Championship appearances for Huddersfield last season as they avoided relegation to League One.

The ex-Charlton forward played as a striker and a winger for the Terriers but is likely to be viewed as someone to spearhead the West Brom attack is he heads to The Hawthorns this summer due to the need for a new centre-forward.

Grant does have a bit of Premier League experience on his CV.

He was signed by Huddersfield in the January before they were relegated and went on to score four goals and supply one assist in 13 Premier League appearances.

Although it’s only a bit of top-flight experience, West Brom’s transfer budget is not the biggest and signing a striker who’s proven himself in that league over a few years is going to be very costly.

Grant’s only 22-years-old, he was in good form last season and he could be an improvement upon the strikers Bilic already has at his disposal.

If a deal can be done for £10million or less then this could be a good piece of business by the Baggies.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have reportedly bid £17million for this attacker.
