‘Absolutely superb’ – Darren Bent blown away by ‘flying’ West Brom talent

Darren Bent has heaped praise on West Brom winger Grady Diangana for his “superb” form last season.

The wide man has rejoined the Baggies on a permanent deal having spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at The Hawthorns.

And former England striker Bent has heaped praise on him for his contribution to Albion’s promotion campaign.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “What I’ve seen of him at West Brom, and I watched him on a lot of occasions last year, he was absolutely superb.

“He was arguably one of the best players in the Championship last season, he’s dynamic, he can go past people, he’s got a great left foot, he’s tricky, he’s pacey.

“Also, there was a time last season when West Ham were really struggling and it got to January and I thought, ‘why have they not called him back?’

“He would have made a difference because he was flying in the Championship so his confidence was really high.”

Honestly, having Diangana back feels like a bit of a dream.

For West Ham to relinquish such a dazzling young talent so easily is borderline nonsensical on their part, and while we’re not complaining in the slightest, all you need to do is take a brief look at the reactions of certain senior Irons to see how highly thought of he is.

Captain Mark Noble, for instance, admitted that he was “angry” at the sale, while Jack Wilshere urged Diangana to relish the opportunity to turn out for a club who “respects” him.

Those are incredibly bold statements that suggest that Hammers are in turmoil, and that the 22-year-old is a special talent.

Of course, we already knew that though, and while West Ham might be in disarray, we’re in dreamland.
