The Athletic details key clause in West Brom Diangana deal amid anger from West Ham players
The Athletic has revealed that West Ham have placed a sell-on clause in Grady Diangana’s West Brom contract, following his permanent transfer to The Hawthorns.
In a collaborative piece written by Roshane Thomas, Andy Jones and Steve Madeley, The Athletic have reported that a 20 percent sell-on fee has been written into Diangana’s contract.
This clause is obviously a sign that the Hammers board think the pacey winger could be sold for big money in the future, with The Athletic stating that West Ham agreed to the sale ‘reluctantly’.
Diangana’s departure from his boyhood club has been criticised by members of the West Ham squad, with Mark Noble taking to twitter to state his anger at the sale.
He wasn’t the only player either, with the Hammers squad said to share his frustration.
According to The Athletic, the main reason Diangana was sold was to raise funds so West Ham could strengthen in other areas of the pitch, with the pursuit of James Tarkowski the priority for the Hammers.
The anger stems from the fact that Diangana has been at the club since he was 12 years old, and has impressed in West Ham’s pre-season games. It seemed that this season would be his chance to prove himself in the Premier League after a fantastic season with West Brom.
It also seems that this deal won’t give West Ham much of an immediate addition to their transfer kitty, as The Athletic also report that the reported £18m fee will be paid in instalments.
Currently it looks as if West Brom have benefited way more than West Ham from Diangana’s transfer, as they have tied down a fan favourite and very talented player for their first season back in the top flight.
And the £18m fee seems like a bargain price given the current state of the market.
The fact the West Ham players are so angry point seems to bear that out.
