Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk is playing his cards close to his chest amid speculation linking him with a move for West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore.

Dom Howson, who writes for YorkshireLive, has also added that Zohore appears to be Sheffield Wednesday's prime transfer target as they prepare for the new Championship season kicking off this week.

But Monk has refused to give anything away when asked about Zohore in his pre-match press conference on Thursday with the Owls boss questioning journalists sources rather than offering any kind of update to his club's supporters.

"I think you have seen, throughout the window, that we have been linked to names continuously," said Monk when asked about Zohore, as quoted by YorkshireLive.

"Some names you are close and some names you are way off the mark. I don’t know who you get your sources from!

"I can't comment on anything because we are not close to anything at this moment in time. We are in talks with a few different options but they are not imminent right now.

"We are working hard behind the scenes to see if we can strengthen."

While Monk refused to mention Zohore's name, he did say that the Yorkshire club is in talks with a number of targets and we assume that the West Brom striker is among those.

Zohore had a season to forget with the Baggies last season despite them winning promotion to the Premier League.

He popped up with a couple of important goals last August by netting penalties against Derby and Reading but that was as far as the Dane's contribution went in the Championship.

And for £8million, you would expect a bit more from him than being able to hit the back of the net from 12 yards.

Zohore is a reminder that Luke Dowling can get things wrong sometimes and it is also a reminder than when Albion buy players for big money, they usually fail to produce.

Nacer Chadli, Oli Burke, Brown Ideye and Borja Valero can all come under the category of record signings who've failed to match expectations at The Hawthorns while Zohore is the most expensive signing the club has made outside the Premier League.

Let's hope Grady Diangana can prove to be an exception this season.
