‘Absolute worldie’ – Alan McInally wowed by West Brom ace in 5-2 defeat v Everton

Alan McInally has hailed West Brom talent Matheus Pereira for his stunning strike against Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies were beaten out 5-2 in a high-octane clash at Goodison Park, but while the scoreline was a heavy one, there were still some positives to be taken from Albion’s performance.

Grady Diangana opened his Premier League account for the club, and Pereira’s effort was a notable highlight.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday (September 19th, 12pm, Sky Sports News) immediately after the goal, McInally said: “Matheus Pereira who was player of the year last year, from a free kick from 26 or 27 yards out has left footed this, curled it over the wall into the corner.

“Normally I’d say goalkeeper has got to save this – absolutely no chance of Jordan Pickford.

“The free kick was an absolute worldie. What a goal. “

This really was a special strike from Pereira.

We all know that the Brazilian is capable of moments of magic here and there, but there were always bound to be questions over whether or not he could produce them in the top flight.

Saturday’s performance proved that we had nothing to worry about.

This was a world class free-kick, there’s no two ways about it.

As McInally says, you would usually criticise Pickford for not reaching the shot, bearing in mind the distance which it was struck from.

But in this instance, it was struck with such power and precision that any goalkeeper in the world would have struggled to keep it out.

Here’s hoping we see plenty more of this as the season progresses.
