Gary Lineker raves about what West Brom player did in 5-2 defeat v Everton

Gary Lineker was impressed by Matheus Pereira’s goal as West Brom lost 5-2 to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

Pereira, 24, introduced himself to the Premier League with an assist in the first half before scoring a stunning free-kick in the early stages of the second period.

Match of the Day host Lineker reacted to the goal via his personal Twitter account, saying: “A pearler from Pereira and it’s 2-2.”

Pereira was outstanding last season but didn’t really do much in the defeat to Leicester last week as Albion failed to create many attacking chances.

But against Everton, he supplied the assist for Grady Diangana’s brilliant solo goal before bagging that stunning free-kick for himself.

Pereira really is West Brom’s best player – but he isn’t going to be enough to help this team avoid relegation this season.

West Brom’s defence was an absolute calamity at Goodison Park.

Kieran Gibbs’ moment of madness that saw him sent off opened the floodgates but none of the Baggies’ defensive players covered themselves in glory in his absence.

Since Bilic was hired, there’s been a massive issue with defending set-pieces and say what you want about Sam Johnstone, he was not at fault for those goals on Saturday.

The outfield players could not mark Everton’s attackers to save their lives.

It was embarrassing at times but at least Pereira made us smile with that free-kick.

In other West Brom news, Bilic confirmed an injury blow to one of his players after the win against Harrogate.
