West Brom are becoming annoyed by the lack of progress in their negotiations with Benfica over Filip Krovinovic, according to Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth.
Ever since the 25-year-old’s loan deal at The Hawthorns expired at the end of last season, the Baggies have been in talks about striking another deal for the midfielder, whether it be permanently or on loan.
After the 3-0 defeat to Leicester on the opening day of West Brom’s season, Bilic told the Croatian media: “I insist we do everything to bring [Krovinovic] in.”
However, Benfica have been tough to deal with as Portuguese newspaper Record claim the Lisbon club wants around £9million for Krovinovic but Albion have not yet tabled a better offer than a loan-to-buy deal worth around £5.5million.
It was thought that Benfica’s exit from the Champions League might soften their stance on the Croatian midfielder but Sheth’s latest update on Sky Sports News suggests that West Brom might end up calling it quits in their bid to re-sign him.
“West Brom are becoming frustrated at the lack of progress with Benfica over the signing of midfielder Filip Krovinovic,” said Sheth on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show on Wednesday night, as shown via the broadcaster’s live transfer blog [07:23pm].
We would like to see Krovinovic come back to The Hawthorns but we’re now at the point where West Brom are wasting valuable time and resources on trying to sign a player who isn’t a top priority.
Although you can never be fully satisfied with the options available, West Brom’s midfield has been improved by the signing of Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea.
Now that his signing is complete, Bilic and Luke Dowling must be doing everything they can to sign a new striker who can score the goals to keep this team in the Premier League.
Krovinovic won’t do that and we’re also not convinced he would start every week when Bilic is using a 3-4-3 system.
Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers were ahead of him in the pecking order last season. Throw Gallagher into the mix and Bilic might have spent the whole transfer window chasing a player who isn’t a regular starter.
In other West Brom news, the club has missed out on another striker target.
