West Brom are set to miss out on yet another one of their striker targets with Aston Villa’s Mbwana Samatta heading to Fenerbahce, according to Express & Star journalist Matt Maher.

The Sun had reported that Albion were planning a move to sign the Tanzania international to bolster Slaven Bilic’s striker options before the end of the transfer window.

However, Maher reported via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that Samatta is likely to join the Turkish club on an initial loan deal that should be completed in the coming days.

Although Samatta wasn’t a popular transfer target among West Brom fans on Twitter, he’s still another target who’s slipped through Bilic and Luke Dowling’s fingers.

Since the end of last season, we’ve seen Sebastian Andersson join Cologne, Michy Batshuayi head to Crystal Palace, Albian Ajeti sign for Celtic and most recently, Mbaye Niang decide he’s not interested in the Baggies.

They’re not the only strikers linked with West Brom who’ve not been landed by Bilic and Dowling and even though we’re in the final weeks of the window – they’re probably not going to be the last.

We’re glad that the club hasn’t signed Samatta because he’s failed to shine at Villa Park and it would have said a lot about him if Villa were willing to let him join a local rival.

But that doesn’t escape the fact that West Brom are still struggling to sign a new centre-forward, even though four competitive matches have been played this season.

Roll on Hal Robson-Kanu being our top goalscorer.
