Rennes striker M’Baye Niang is not attracted to Slaven Bilic’s project at West Brom, according to L’Equipe.
The Baggies are currently in the market for a hitman as they look to bolster their squad following two straight Premier League defeats.
The Sun reported on Monday that the 25-year-old was “desperate” to seal a move to The Hawthorns this summer as he looks for a way out of the French club.
But L’Equipe now dispute that piece and have suggested that the forward is not keen on the prospect of a transfer to the midlands in the coming weeks.
The article also states that Rennes are yet to receive any concrete offers for the player, who hit 15 goals in all competitions last term.
If this is true, then it is a blow for the Baggies, no doubt about it.
The search for a striker is becoming increasingly frantic, and if we don’t get one through the door between now and the transfer window closing next month then it could spell big trouble for Bilic’s men.
So far this season we have seen Callum Robinson employed in a central role, but a top quality, specialist hitman could be the difference between relegation and survival.
Niang certainly looks to meet that criteria too.
15 goals is a decent tally, especially when it comes from playing in one of Europe’s best leagues and the Europa League.
That kind of pedigree would be hugely appreciated at The Hawthorns, as would the fact that Niang could be available on a loan deal.
Funds are tight for Albion, and if they could bring in a proven finisher on a cheap deal, that would be a major coup.
