Reliable journalist details when Krovinovic is likely to play again for West Brom
If Filip Krovinovic secures his return to West Brom, it is unlikely that he will play for the Baggies until after the international break, according to Joe Chapman.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday, the Birmingham Mail journalist reported that Albion have made a breakthrough in their talks to re-sign the 25-year-old, who is set to return to The Hawthorns on loan.
It is understood that he is close to signing a new contract at Benfica before making a loan move to the Premier League but due to training and quarantine, he might not be able to feature in Slaven Bilic’s plans until mid-October.
West Brom have two more matches to play before the international break with Chelsea visiting The Hawthorns on Saturday before a trip to Southampton next Sunday.
Albion have until October 5 to sign players from outside of England and the next match after that is against Burnley at The Hawthorns on October 17.
If Krovinovic does come back then it seems that is the game he will likely make his Premier League debut in.
But where does Krovinovic fit in this side now?
Since winning promotion from the Championship, Bilic has played a 3-4-3 formation with Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore being his only central midfielders.
In the second-tier, Sawyers and Livermore were ahead of Krovinovic in Bilic’s pecking order with the Croatian playmaker only really starting when the manager opted for a 4-3-3 formation.
Conor Gallagher is also at the club now after joining on loan from Chelsea, so that is an extra option that Bilic has in his midfield who could be ahead of Krovinovic.
And then you have the fact that next summer we’re likely to have the very same issues as this summer if Krovinovic does well.
In other West Brom news, the club has missed out on another striker target.
