West Brom and Aston Villa are among a number of clubs who are positioning themselves to sign Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr, according to wiwsport.com.
The Senegalese news outlet, which has almost one million followers on Facebook, claims that Crystal Palace and Premier League champions Liverpool are also in the hunt to sign the 22-year-old forward.
It is understood that West Brom have expressed an interest in the £50million-rated Senegal international but they do not appear to be in a commanding position to strike a deal with Aston Villa and Liverpool already in negotiations.
We can say quite confidently that the Baggies will not be signing Sarr before the transfer window closes next month but that doesn’t mean the club didn’t show an interest in the Watford ace at some point since winning promotion.
Sarr had a decent season with Watford last term as they suffered relegation from the Premier League by scoring six goals and supplying six assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
He is best remembered for his brace against Liverpool in February when he helped Watford secure a shock 3-0 win to stop Jurgen Klopp’s side from winning the title without suffering any losses.
We’d love to see Albion sign a player of Sarr’s quality but his reported £50million price-tag is ridiculously high for a player who’s been relegated and is way too much for what Slaven Bilic is able to pay.
It was widely reported most of the summer that West Brom’s transfer budget was around £25million and the wide areas of the squad are not exactly a concern at the moment.
Before the transfer window closes, West Brom need a striker and we still wouldn’t mind Sarr’s team-mate and captain Troy Deeney.
In other West Brom news, the club has missed out on another striker target.
