Sun journo hints that WBA are trying to ‘starve out’ club in hunt for 22y/o talent

West Brom may be looking to “starve out” Huddersfield Town in their pursuit of Karlan Grant, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The Baggies are in the market for a new striker as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of their Premier League campaign.

And the 22-year-old is understood to be a priority target for Albion, with the player himself said to be “desperate” for a deal to be struck.

But while the deadline for international transfers closes on October 5th, the market for domestic deals will stay open until October 16th, and Nixon believes that the Baggies – along with other top flight clubs – could use that extra period to try and leverage a better deal out of their Championship peers.

When asked directly about his thoughts on the likelihood of Grant joining West Brom on Twitter, the reporter replied: “The window doesn’t shut for some time in domestic moves.

“One or two Premier clubs trying to ‘starve out’ Championship clubs right now.”

This makes absolute sense.

West Brom need a striker, there’s no doubt about that, but you would also imagine that they would be reluctant to fork out the £18 million or so that the Terriers are demanding.

Waiting until later in the window could force the Championship side to lower their expectations, however, especially if the player has made it clear that he wants to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

Of course, this tactic is not without its risks, and Albion need a new hitman pronto, but it could save the club a few bob in the long run.

In other West Brom news, Championship side would love to sign this Baggies winger.
