West Brom strengthen bid to sign Karlan Grant amid new transfer decision – Steve Madeley
The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley has issued a West Brom transfer update as the Baggies look to secure the services of a striker.
Madeley understands that the Baggies’ interest in other players helps their negotiating position with Huddersfield over Karlan Grant, with the Express & Star reporting that talks are underway between West Brom and Bournemouth over Joshua King.
Tweeting from his personal Twitter account, Madeley stated that Grant is still West Brom’s ‘prefered option’ and claims it is ‘encouraging’ that the Baggies are looking at other potential strikers.
The Baggies were unable to bring in a striker before the end of the international transfer window on October 5, but they could still sign a striker from English clubs up until October 16. So Grant and King are both still potential options.
Slaven Bilic has been keen to bring a striker to the Hawthorns since the start of the transfer window, and Grant has been continuously linked with a move to the West Midlands all summer.
But in recent days Bournemouth striker Joshua King has also been linked with a move. The Norway international has only played 24 minutes in the Championship this term, after starting the season with an injury.
It seems as though King is keen to follow his ex-Bournemouth striking partner, Callum Wilson, to the Premier League following his move to Newcastle United in September.
It is imperative that a striker is added to Slaven Bilic’s squad before October 16, with Hal Robson-Kanu out injured and Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore looking like they will leave the club, this leaves Callum Robinson as the only available first-team striker at the Hawthorns.
