We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has urged West Brom to put all their eggs in one basket and try to sign Bournemouth forward Joshua King instead of Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant.
According to the Express & Star, Huddersfield forward Grant, 22, is Slaven Bilic’s top target for the remaining week of the transfer window.
However, Phillips would rather see the Baggies set their sights on signing King, 28, as he is more proven in the Premier League.
“Do I think they could bring both players in? I think one of them is a priority. I wouldn’t be too concerned about bringing both in but I would put all my eggs in one basket and go for Joshua King,” Phillips told West Brom News.
“Who knows what’s going to happen with Grant?
“If I was a Baggies fan, I’d want both because they’d double your chances of scoring goals and staying in the Premier League.”
Sky claims that West Ham have had a bid worth £13million rejected by the Cherries for King and that could mean Albion will be priced out of a move for the Norway international.
Bilic has had a very small transfer budget to work with since winning promotion to the Premier League.
Unless there’s some shock investment from owner Guochuan Lai, we don’t see West Brom being able to pull off a deal for the former Manchester United striker.
In other West Brom news, Guochuan Lai would be happy to discuss selling the Baggies.
