West Brom take on Burnley on Monday night and it is the perfect opportunity for Slaven Bilic’s side to get their Premier League season up and running.
The Baggies’ return to the Premier League has been far from ideal so far as they sit just above the relegation zone after picking up just one point from their opening four top-flight games.
But when West Brom take on Burnley at the Hawthorns on Monday night they will have the perfect opportunity to jump-start their season as they take on a side who are yet to pick up a point this term.
It will be a huge chance for the Albion to pick up their first win of the season when they take on a Burnley side who have lost all three of their league games so far and failed to bring any new blood to Turf Moor this summer.
Both sides have defensive worries. The Baggies have conceded 13 in four this season and Burnley have let in eight goals in their three games. But the Baggies have a superior attack and should be able to cause problems against a weak defence.
The Baggies defence have slightly less to worry about, especially following Burnley’s toothless displays in the league this season. Sean Dyche’s side have only managed three goals in the top flight this term and it is the Claret’s attack that is costing them games.
If there was ever a game for the Baggies to prove they know how to keep a clean sheet, it’s this one.
It would also be the perfect time to give Branislav Ivanovic his first Premier League start of the season. He will drastically improve the Baggies defence and he won’t have many easier tasks this season than keeping Burnley at bay.
He should be close to full fitness after not featuring since mid-September. With the international break to work on his fitness, it would be great to see the Champions League winner at the heart of the Albion defence on Monday.
Monday’s game will also be a great chance for Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira to add to their goal tallies this season. They both scored away at Goodison Park but have struggled for chances since. Facing a Burnley defence that is low on confidence and conceded three to Newcastle on their last outing, presents an ideal opportunity for the Baggies attackers to get some confidence-boosting goals.
West Brom have a real chance to start their season properly after a hard start and they need to take it. A dominating win with goals and a clean sheet will give everyone at the club so much confidence. But a loss to this poor Burnley side could equally be a huge blow for the players and management.
