‘Best option’ – Simon Jordan delivers verdict as West Brom on brink of major transfer

talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has claimed that the loan-to-buy deal that is inching closer to bringing Karlan Grant to West Brom is the “best option” for Huddersfield.

Jordan delivered his verdict after talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook gave an update on the seemingly never-ending transfer saga of Grant.

Talking on the White & Sawyer Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, midday) Crook said, “They [West Brom] have been in the hunt for a striker ever since they got promoted to the Premier League.

“Their top target all summer has been Karlan Grant, that move is inching ever closer.

“It will be a loan to the end of the season, then an obligation to buy for £14m if certain clauses are met. The key clause would be West Brom staying in the Premier League.”

Crook asked Jordan who was getting the best end of the deal.

“I think it’s pretty equitable, don’t you?” Jordan said.

“Well, if West Brom do get relegated then Huddersfield will miss out on the £14m”, Crook replied.

“Well, if there’s a queue of people forming behind West Brom then you could definitely use that argument,” Jordan said.

“However, if this is the only game in town, Huddersfield and Phil Hodgkinson are no slouches and he will take the best option for Huddersfield.

“West Brom seems to be the only club who are even remotely interested in Grant at the moment.”

Jordan makes a good point.

Huddersfield are running out of options for Grant and £14m is a lot of money.

It’s a gamble on West Brom staying in the Premier League but Grant will definitely help with that and a sizeable loan fee would take the edge off the gamble.

It really does seem like it’s a case of ironing out the details now although time is running out.

All reports are saying the deal is inching closer, though, and we expect it to go through now.

What’s of more immediate concern to us is that Grant hasn’t played this season and last played a competitive match at the end of July.

The Baggies really need him to be available straight away, with Callum Robinson currently self-isolating.

It’s unlikely he’s match fit and that means West Brom will have to rely on Charlie Austin or Kenneth Zohore on Monday – and one or both could easily leave if Grant comes in.
