Sean Dyche could welcome ex-West Brom forward Jay Rodriguez back to his Burnley side for Monday night’s clash against Albion at the Hawthorns.
Rodriguez limped off after 15 minutes in the Clarets’ Carabao Cup win over Millwall in September and has missed Burnley’s last three games.
But Dyche says he could welcome back the man who netted his side 11 goals in all competitions last season when his side take on the Baggies on Monday.
Speaking to LancsLive, Dyche said, “Jay Rodriguez, is back on the grass training with us, Jay Rod should be available as long as the next few days go okay.”
He also said that defender Ben Mee won’t be available as he has suffered a ‘slight re-injury’ while working on his recovery.
Monday night’s game could prove to be a pivotal 90 minutes for either side as they both go searching for their first league win of the season, or in Burnley’s case, a first league point.
West Brom and Burnley sit 17th and 18th in the league respectively and either side could jump-start their season with a much-needed win. Defending has been the shortcoming for both sides so far this season with the clubs conceding a combined 21 goals across seven Premier League games this season.
This stat would suggest that both clubs will be fighting at the bottom end of the table this season, which makes Monday’s game even more important as it gives the sides an opportunity to take points off a team they may well be battling for relegation with in May.
Burnley having Rodriguez back could be a blow to the Baggies as he adds considerably more attacking threat so Dyche’s side when he is fit. Albion’s defence will have to put in a better performance than they have managed so far this season if they are to give their side a chance at getting that elusive first victory.
In other West Brom news, Steve Madeley has discussed whether Karlan Grant could start in Monday night’s game.
