Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone helped West Brom stay in the game as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Burnley on Monday night.
Johnstone has played every minute of the Baggies’ Premier League campaign and registered a first clean sheet of the season against the Clarets.
He has been one of the top performers for the Baggies this season despite his side conceding 13 goals in 5 games, but he has made some vital saves that have kept Albion in the game at times.
Albion’s problems against Burnley came at the attacking end for a change as new signing Karlan Grant couldn’t get his Baggies career off to a flying start. But Johnstone didn’t put a foot – or hand – wrong, saving especially well from an Ashley Barnes effort.
Johnstone came in for praise after the Baggies’ last Premier League outing against Southampton as well and while his side lost 2-0 it could’ve been a lot more if the English keeper hadn’t been on form.
Having a good goalkeeper is key to surviving in the English top-flight and Johnstone looks to be finding the step up from the Championship to the Premier League easier than anticipated.
Some fans took to social media to say that Johnstone was the man of the match, while others claimed they had changed heir mind about the 27-year-old.
Here is how some West Brom fans reacted:
I'll take that. Conor Gallagher looked superb, and another good performance from Sam Johnstone. MOTM for me #wba

That was a super save from Sam Johnstone, he keeps out Ashley Barnes, brilliant cross in from McNeil again and Barnes header is tipped away by Johnstone down to his right. Really good bit of goalkeeping #WBABUR

Said it before I'm not a massive fan of Johnstone but he's been impressive the last 2 games. Made some vital saves last night and against Southampton if it wasn't for him it could of been more than 2 conceded. I just wish he would command his box to take pressure of defence #WBA

In other West Brom news, Grant endured a far-from-perfect debut against Burnley.
