View: Mistreated West Brom fans have every right to be annoyed over new PL PPV report
Sky Sports and BT Sport want to scrap their controversial pay-per-view service according to The Mirror, in a move that is sure to annoy West Brom fans.
Since the PPV service was brought in, every Baggies game has been scheduled for Sky Sports Box Office. With each game costing £14.95 to watch this means Albion fans would need to shell out nearly £45 to watch their side play three times.
Now a source has told The Mirror that the system is ‘damaging the reputation of Sky Sports’ and that the ‘feeling is shared at BT’ as both companies would ‘prefer for it to stop’.
Should these comments lead to the Pay-per-view system being scrapped it will mean that Baggies fans have been the supporters who have suffered the most due to the system.
Not only have the games cost even more money on top of a Sky Sports subscription, but all three games have been scheduled for 8pm on Monday nights. Having an occasional Monday night game is alright but having three in a row is ridiculous. Football should be played, watched and enjoyed at the weekend after a working week.
Should the Premier League make their games free to watch again, it would be highly unlikely that they would offer refunds to any fans who had paid to watch the PPV games.
Baggies fans can quite rightly feel pretty annoyed about this as they have been disproportionally affected by this compared to fans of other Premier League clubs.
The move to bring in a PPV service showed just how out of touch the Premier League are as fans are struggling through a global pandemic which has affected everyone. But if they now revert back to having free games for everyone it would just highlight how some clubs are mistreated and undervalued by the Premier League.
Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton have had no games scheduled for Sky Sports Box Office, yet Albion will be on three times from three match weeks. How is that fair?
Fans of several Premier League clubs have boycotted the new PPV service and instead donated the £14.95 to foodbanks who are struggling in a COVID-19 world, while Baggies boss Slaven Bilic also condemned the system. Hopefully, if the PPV service is dropped then broadcasters will offer refunds, but we find that highly unlikely.
In other West Brom news, Kamil Grosicki has taken to Twitter and dropped a hint when his future may be decided.
