‘We are not alone’ – Nottm Forest release scathing statement as Grosicki deal is blocked by EFL

Nottingham Forest have released a statement criticising the EFL after they blocked the transfer of West Brom winger Kamil Grosicki.

Albion and Forest agreed a deal for the 32-year-old on deadline day but the papers were submitted to the EFL just seconds after the deadline shut, meaning Grosicki’s future was uncertain.

The EFL announced on Thursday that they would not sanction the potential transfer and Forest have responded with their own statement.

Nottinghamshire Live report that in a statement, Forest claimed to have support in their favour from other Championship clubs while suggesting that further decisions similar to this would prevent the EFL ‘flourishing’.

Forest said, “We believe it is a matter of significant regret that the board exercised its discretion against us and the player when it could have done the opposite. In particular we do not believe the board’s decision was the product of the type of governance needed to enable the EFL to flourish and to provide the fans with a vibrant competition.

“Judging by the numerous expressions of private support that we have received from other Championship rivals we believe we are not alone in holding this view.”

Following Thursday’s announcement, the Baggies said that Grosicki had been added to their Premier League squad as they had only filled 24 of the 25 spaces available to them. The club also announced that he is available to be selected immediately meaning he could make an appearance when Albion take on Fulham in their next match.

It is unclear how much of a part Grosicki will play in Albion’s season. Slaven Bilic clearly wanted him gone but he is still here and available to be selected. Could we now see the Polish international brought into the Croatian’s Premier League plans?

It is unlikely he’ll start ahead of either Matheus Pereira or Grady Diangana but he could be a useful option off the bench. Also with this season’s congested schedule, Albion may need every man named on that 25-man squad list so keeping Grosicki available as an option good benefit the Baggies.
