Former West Brom goalkeeper Chris Kirkland believes that Sam Allardyce would be a good choice to replace Slaven Bilic as manager.
The Croatian has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks, with the Baggies picking up just three points from their opening seven matches.
Bilic was also frustrated with the manner in which the board handled the sale of Ahmed Hegazi.
In the case that he did leave the club, Kirkland has suggested Allardyce as a good replacement.
“Sam [Allardyce] would be the one possibly wouldn’t he,” he told FootballFanCast.
“It all depends on where they are in December. If they do lose games and they are adrift, or not adrift but need wins, he is the man to go to, isn’t he?
“Long-term, we’ve seen what he did at Bolton, obviously that was a long time ago but you need stability. The biggest thing with Sam is he’ll attract players you know, he’ll get players to come to him.”
Proven track record
Having managed Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Everton in the Premier League, Allardyce has a track record of keeping struggling sides in the division.
His style of play is often functional though and it would be interesting to see whether he could get the most out flair players such as Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira. However, he does have a reputation for shoring up defences, something the Baggies desperately need.
So far this season West Brom have conceded a league high 16 goals, from 12.4 expected goals against (via FBRef). Bilic has also switched between personnel regularly, with eight different defenders chosen from the start already (via WhoScored).
West Brom fans have become accustomed to the attacking style implemented by Bilic, with the Baggies ranked second in the Championship in terms of goals scored last season (via WhoScored). Of course, that has yet to materialise this season, and much will depend on where they are come Christmas, but at this stage Allardyce will be a move away from the kind of football Bilic has sought to bring.
